Bim-Post Office partnership: Six more agencies to open this year

Six more bank branches will be opened this year as part of the rural and urban communities’ banking program implemented by the partnership between Millennium bim bank and the Mozambique Post Office.

The six agencies will join two others opened last week in Moma district in Nampula province, and Lago in Niassa. Two others had already been opened in Matutuíne, Maputo province, and Mocuba, Zambézia province.

Speaking to Notícias, Mozambique Post Office chairman Valdemar Jessen said that new branches would be opened in July in Beira, capital of Sofala province; Quelimane, capital of Zambézia province; City of Maputo; Ancuabe, in the Cabo Delgado region; and Panda in Inhambane province.

Jessen said the immediate impact of the partnership with Millennium bim was to put financial services within the reach of a greater proportion of the population and shorten the distance people had to travel to utilise other services provided by the Post Office.

He also announced that, using Millennium bim technology, the payment of pensions to pensioners would soon be modernised, improving their living conditions, and said that the partnership would improve the Post Office’s financial situation, as Millennium bim pays rent at locations where it operates.

Speaking at the opening of the Metangula agency in Lago a few days ago, Jessen said that the population is increasingly being better served as a result of the partnership.

“We express our appreciation of the selection of this bank in the implementation of our programme. This is the tenth post office station in less than a year which has been rehabilitated and modernised, of which three are in urban areas and seven in rural. This proves that the choice of Millennium bim as partner was the right move. Let’s use the services and products offered here and take care of our facilities,” Jessen said.

Millennium bim director Fernando Carvalho said that capacity for innovation was what distinguished a leader from a follower, and that, throughout its history, Millennium bim had always been a pioneer in the use of new technologies. He said that innovation included finding new ways to serve customers, and the bank had responded best to clients’ needs by establishing a partnership with the Mozambique Post Office.

Millennium bim agencies in post office branches will offer services such as opening of accounts, money transfers and payment for services and utilities.
