Petrogal Mozambique increases domestic gas production

Petrogal Mozambique has increased domestic gas production in recent weeks to respond to an increase in demand that has depleted stocks, Lusa said.

“There was a 30 to 40 percent growth in demand. We had to adjust the entire distribution chain,” Paulo Varela, chairman of the company that dominates the domestic gas market in Mozambique, says.

In the last two weeks, nine to ten thousand bottles of domestic gas have been filled each day, compared to the five to six thousand processed before, and the market is now normalised, he says, adding that the peak in demand was related to a shortage of coal nationally.

The government has guaranteed to import sufficient domestic gas to cover demand.

Quoted in Friday’s edition of the newspaper Notícias, National Director of Hydrocarbons and Fuel Moisés Paulino said that imports of about 28,000 thousand tons of domestic gas were forecast for 2017, but consumption would bring the figure to 32,000 tonnes.

Paulino also said that the increase in gas consumption was associated with the increase in the price of coal.
