The speaker of the Mozambican parliament, Veronica Macamo and the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Morocco, Abdelali E. Rahali, have expressed the intention of deepening relations of friendship, solidarity and cooperation between their two countries through permanent dialogue, APA can report on Thursday. Addressing a media briefing in Maputo on Thursday after a courtesy meeting with the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Morocco accredited to Maputo, Macamo asked the diplomat for his good offices in order to make possible the relations of cooperation between the parliaments of the two Countries.
As is the case at government level, according to Rahali, the Moroccan vision is to implement its strategy of cooperation also at parliamentary level, with specific interest in the establishment of friendship groups by both parliaments, as well as the formalisation of cooperation through the signing of a protocol or memorandum of understanding, which is in line with the vision of the Mozambican parliament embodied in its strategic plan.
Morocco is a constitutional monarchy whose ruler is King Mohammed VI.
The Legislative Power of the Kingdom of Morocco is exercised by two chambers, the representatives and the advisers.
Mozambique and Morocco have historical bilateral relations, having been one of the first countries to support and welcome Mozambican nationalists in the framework of the armed struggle for national liberation, to host the first conference of nationalist organisations of the Portuguese colonies, the first to cut diplomatic relations with the Portuguese colonial regime and the first to grant a diplomatic passport to Mozambican citizens.
Currently, Morocco has a strategic vision of relations with Mozambique, especially as this is an important entry for six southern African countries, with which the kingdom intends to strengthen its economic relations.
In its relationship with Mozambique, Morocco considers that, according to the ambassador, the respective diplomatic platform may be of common interest, taking into account pragmatic cooperation.
The kingdom hopes to be able to, in the medium term, become the second largest African investor in the country after South Africa.
