The National Institute for Disaster Management (INGC) in Manica has now completely decommissioned the accommodation facility for internally displaced persons in Mucarate, Mossorize district, Manica province.
The 300 or so families that were still in the centre have been allocated shelter kits and resettled in Mupunguane and Chipungumira.
INGC spokesman in Manica, Cremildo Quembo, said some of the people resettled were affected by the drought last year, and said that food assistance would continue until the next harvest.
“Most of the people were in the camp as a result of political-military tension. They had sought safety, but with peace now prevailing, have chosen to return to their areas of origin. Others moved to the new resettlement neighbourhoods,” Quembo said.
