Mozambique: South Korea provides €881,000 for humanitarian aid in Cabo Delgado
Voa / Naftal Matusse says the Maxixe provincial hospital will be ready in 2019 and will employ 500 professionals
The Mozambican government is to invest US$700 million in a provincial-level hospital in Maxixe, Inhambane.
Inhambane’s current provincial hospital was built in 1929.
Authorities say the new hospital will be cyclone-proof and located in Maxixe, on the only road linking the southern, central and northern parts of the country.
With more than 125,000 inhabitants, Maxixe is Inhambane’s second-largest city, and is considered the province’s economic capital.
Provincial Director of Health Naftal Matusse says that a 400-bed hospital was initially planned for but, due to financial constraints, the government had decided to focus on the construction of a facility with emergency services.
Matusse says the new hospital, which will employ over 500 professionals, including specialists, general practitioners, nurses and other technicians, will be ready to receive its first patients in 2019.
