Leased aircraft touches down in Mozambique as part of LAM's fleet boost
Mozambique’s National Inspection of Economic Activities (INAE) has seized 46,000 empty crates from state brewer Cervejas de Moçambique for improper use of an industrial design.
Speaking to Lusa in Maputo, INAE inspector general Rita Freitas said that the company that sold the crates does not own the industrial design they employ.
“It is a case of improper use of industrial design that fortunately has nothing to do with the content that Cervejas de Moçambique produces – that would be a public health problem,” she said.
The company that owns the design of the crates used by Cervejas de Moçambique has rights registered at Mozambique’s Institute of Industrial Property (IPI) and other international entities, Freitas added.
“If one company wants to use another’s industrial design, it negotiates that right and pays the royalties, but that was not the case,” she said.
The INAE inspector General says that the number of crates seized could indicate that there are many other cases of industrial design misuse in Mozambique, justifying a strong reaction by authorities.
“It is an anomaly that causes enormous damage to the country’s economy, because the real owners of the rights feel unprotected,” she said.
