Mozambique intends to welcome the opportunity to share Equatorial Guinea’s experience in the field of hydrocarbons exploration and commercialization, an area well-known to the Central African country.
The interest was voiced yesterday in Maputo in talks between the Mozambican Filipe Nyusi and his Equatorial Guinea counterpart Teodoro Obiang, in the context of Obiang’s three-day visit to Mozambique at the invitation of the president. Teodoro Obiang is accompanied by his wife
At the end of the talks, three legal cooperation instruments were signed, including a general agreement on economic, cultural, scientific and technical cooperation, an agreement for the establishment of the joint commission and a memorandum of understanding on political and diplomatic consultation.
The documents, which will guide cooperation between the two states, were signed by Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Oldemiro Balói and the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of Equatorial Guinea, Agapito Mba Mokuy.
At the press conference that followed, Oldemiro Baloi stressed that among the various topics discussed in the talks were economic cooperation in the agriculture, culture, transport and communications sectors, mineral resources and energy (especially hydrocarbons), health and education.
According to Balói, it was clear to the heads of state that cooperation should focus on these sectors in the first instance, in order to achieve results, and it was therefore necessary to create the appropriate legal framework for this cooperation to be possible.
“This legal framework creates the conditions for cooperation between the two countries at the political level and the appropriate use for the enormous potential that exists between the two countries.”
For his part, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of Equatorial Guinea said that the purpose of President Obiang’s visit to Mozambique was to strengthen cooperation between the two countries, especially since Mozambique had had a preponderant role in the admission of his country in the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries (CPLP).
“Equatorial Guinea has been a part of the CPLP for a few years now, and this visit also forms part of that,” President Obiang said. He noted that the two countries had signed three agreements which would enable them to deepen cooperation in various sectors.
