Mozambique among 34 African countries hit as Ecuador revokes visa-free transit

Lusophone civil aviation regulators will meet in Maputo from 10 to 13 April for their eighth working session to discuss aviation security within member countries and jointly find strategies for the civil aviation sector with a view to making air transport safer in the Portuguese-speaking airspace.
In addition to the aviation safety issues which have attracted the attention of governments and civil society organisations from Portuguese-speaking countries and the world at large in the face of the recent events, the Maputo meeting, the first to be held in the country, will assess Mozambique’s mandate as the head of the Community of Lusophone Civil Aviation Authorities (CAACL) since it succeeded Guinea Bissau in 2015.
CPLP civil aviation regulatory authorities participating in the Maputo meeting are Portugal, Brazil, Mozambique, Angola, Cape Verde, Guinea Bissau and Sao Tome and Principe.
The country to chair the group for the 2017-2018 period, chosen according to alphabetical order, will be announced at the end of the meeting, the successor and predecessor to coordinate the handover so at to comply with the provisions of the Memorandum of Understanding signed in 2007, when the organisation was created.
Under the CAACL statute, the representatives of the member countries must meet regularly at least once a year and extraordinarily when requested by the coordinating party or by the majority of the member countries.
The CAACL meeting coincides with a workshop called the Case Project, held between 12 and 13 April, funded by the European Civil Aviation Conference (CEAC), which focuses on the organization of capacity building activities in the field of civil aviation security in Africa and the Arabian Peninsula.
