INAE has imposed a fine of 50,000 meticais on an establishment found with stocks of spoiled seafood and poultry.
The National Inspection of Economic Activities (INAE) yesterday seized about a ton of fish and more than 100 chickens in an advanced state of spoliation in the city of Chimoio. The product was being sold at a shellfish outlet in Feira market.
Authorities swooped on Casa de Pescados e Mariscos after complaints from clients, and imposed a fine of 50,000 meticais on the establishment, but did not order its closure, since hygiene conditions were deemed satisfactory.
The manager of the store denies having sold spoiled products and says that he intended to send the produce in question to the incinerator.
INAE intends to destroy the food itself within the next few days.
