Four people, including a pastor and a congregation worker from the Universal Church of the Kingdom of God have been arrested in the Massinga district of Inhambane province, accused of attempting to kidnap a child with albinism.
Police say that the pastor and the congregation worker live in Maxixe, just under 50 km away, while the other two live in Massinga district.
The defendants allegedly invited the minor to a party in the city of Maxixe with the aim of kidnapping him.
“One of the accused is a cousin of the child, and deceived him with the promise of a party at an aunt’s house in Maxixe. The next day, at the time scheduled to go to the party, a double-cab van appeared, but the youth’s suspicions were aroused and he managed to flee to the police station,” the police explained.
The police commander in Massinga added that, after the alarm was raised, his corporation initiated an investigation culminating in the arrest of the two youths in Massinga, who in turn denounced the pastor and his co-worker as the instigators of the alleged abduction.
The pastor denies the charges against himself and his worker, claiming that his church needed an albino for a demonstration at a church service in Maxixe.
