Workers from the Maputo public transport company demanding the reinstatement of salary discounts made in January and a clear explanation of the non-payment of the thirteenth month say they see no alternative to strike action as a way to put pressure on their employers.
Another concern is the cuts in subsidies. According to the workers, management has suspended seniority bonuses, night and holiday allowances and overtime pay. They also complains of the withdrawal of transport for employees who work until 00.00 and those who arrive at 04.00.
The union committee of the defunct TPM wants negotiations to start immediately and warns that, if nothing is done, the stoppage will come into effect at 4:00 am on Monday.
EMTPM workers suspended their activities on 24 February in defense of their rights.
O País contacted the EMTPM Communications and Image Office, which has promised to release a statement today.
