Breaking: TIM journalists detained in Maputo police station have been released – Canalmoz report

TIM journalists who had been detained at the first police station since 1300 hours Wednesday because they demanded their wages late nine months ago have just been released. Paulo Chimene, a spokesman for the workers has just confirmed the information to Canalmoz.

Workers from Independent Television of Mozambique (TIM), among them journalists who have not received their salaries for nine months, were detained in the first police station of the PRM in Maputo, Canalmoz had reported approximately two hours ago. They are: Anilda Manjate, Reinaldo Júlio, Mussagy Ranchande, Mugare Gabriel and Cristóvão Fanheiro.

For more than eight months the company management has been promising to pay wages but failed to do so, reads the Canalmoz report.

According to the same source, when this morning the workers approached one of the managers of the company, Alfredo Júnior, he would have called the police and they would have all ended up in the first squad where they had been since 1 pm.

In the first police station, the workers’ spokesman, Paulo Chimene, told CanalMoz that everything is an attempt to intimidate workers to give up their rights. But they promise to fight to the end.
