Mozambican President Filipe Nyusi, speaking in the southern city of Matola, in his capacity as President of the ruling Frelimo Party, on Friday declared that Frelimo needs a secretariat whose members are exclusively dedicated to their party functions.
Nyusi was opening an extraordinary meeting of the Frelimo Central Committee at which the restructuring of the Party Secretariat is the sole point on the agenda.
He stressed that Frelimo needs a full time secretariat, a truly executive body “which will consolidate gains and experiences, and continue to promote unity and cohesion among the members”.
“A secretariat is being proposed that is dedicated to creating conditions so that all members of the Party feel that they are an integral, interested and committed part of the great Frelimo family”, said Nyusi.
“What is being proposed here is a structure which improves the mechanisms for the organizational management of the party, for the implementation, financing, registration, control and supervision of the activities which help consolidate and develop Frelimo”, he stressed.
The Secretariat, he added, must control and add value to Frelimo’s financial holdings “in the context of the ever growing market economy” and also value the human resources “with the capacity to manage changes that have a positive impact on the image of the organization”.
Frelimo, Nyusi said, has a tradition stretching back for half a century of bringing itself into line with national and international realities, which was why it had grown to its current strength of over four million members.
“The structure we must elect should reflect the growth of the party and the continual transformations within Frelimo and within society”, Nyusi said.
