The governments of Mozambique and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia signed a General Cooperation Agreement in Riyadh on Tuesday.
A statement from the Embassy of Mozambique in Riyadh sent to AIM says that the document was signed by the Mozambican ambassador, Cesar Gouveia, and the Secretary for Economic and Social Affairs in the Saudi Foreign Ministry, Yossuf Tarrab.
Speaking after the event in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Riyadh, Gouveia said that the agreement represents a qualitative leap forward in relations between Mozambique and Saudi Arabia.
He reminded journalists that Mozambique and Saudi Arabia established diplomatic relations in 1996 and Mozambique opened an embassy there in 2013. Since then, the countries have exchanged delegations at various levels.
Secretary Tarrab said he considered the agreement the beginning of a process that would culminate in the establishment of joint committees between the two countries.
