Mozambique: Hauliers want less police corruption to reduce road accidents
Notícias / The Bagamoyo
The Bagamoio ferry boat linking the city of Maputo with the municipal district of KaTembe has been out of action since yesterday morning, limiting vehicle crossings between the two points.
According to an employee from Transmarítima, the company that manages the vessel, the breakdown occurred early on Monday morning after the vessel had made a round trip.
Notícias reports that yesterday the vehicle crossing was being made by the Mpfumo, a vessel that falls short of responding completely to users’ requirements, causing long lines of vehicles waiting to cross the bay.
The Bagamoyo has been in operation since 1972 and has broken down frequently over the past two years. It regularly operates with only one of its two engines in service, which does not allow full utilization of its 208-passenger capacity.
