The production of natural gas by South African petrochemical company Sasol in the southern Mozambican province of Inhambane has resumed, the company not having suffered much from cyclone Dineo which battered 12 districts of the territory on Wednesday.
According to press office chief Alex Anderson, the Temane region experienced strong winds and heavy rains, but the company implemented response measures to protect both its personnel and assets.
Currently, efforts are being made to resume extractive activity in search of new sources of gas and oil in the Production Sharing Agreement area, but it has had to be temporarily suspended.
Sasol is the main source of natural gas for consumers in South Africa and Mozambique. It extracts the gas from existing reservoirs in Temane and pumps it to a plant in South Africa.
Sasol will publish the results for 2016’s second half on the 27th of the current month.
The tropical cyclone Dineo caused the deaths of seven people in Inhambane province and affected more than 600,000 people, according to the INGC Emergency Operations Center.
