Rúben Matsombe died on Tuesday afternoon at Maputo Central Hospital after his wife threw hot oil over him in Matola’s Tsalala neighbourhood where the coupe lived.
Matsombe died suddenly when his condition was apparently improving, his family believing he would soon return home, Notícias reports.
Matsombe, 44 years old, was a Mozambique Tax Authority employee, and had had a short stint as a Notícias journalist in the late 1990s. He leaves three children.
His wife, Fernanda Mawelele, 29, has been in the Civil Prison since Monday, 13 February, after being discharged from Infulene’s Psychiatric Hospital, where she was taken immediately after the incident.
The incident happened during the course of an argument between the couple. According to the neighbours, the victim was found in his son’s room after he had called for help.
