The US embassy in Maputo on Friday announced support worth US$37.2 million for policies to improve the business environment and stimulate economic growth in Mozambique.
In a note sent to Lusa, the US embassy says that the money will finance interventions aimed at improving the private sector business environment in agriculture, trade, energy, water and biodiversity conservation.
The aid, according to the statement, is part of a project launched today Monday in the Mozambican capital called “Facilitating the Business Environment for Economic Growth in Mozambique”.
Mozambique fell three places to 137 out of a total of 190 countries assessed in the World Bank “Doing Business” report released in October last year. The country has slipped eight positions in two years, with the study concluding in its last edition that there had been regression in practically all aspects analyzed.
The burden of bureaucracy and logistical constraints are often pointed out by businesspeople as the main obstacles to doing business in Mozambique.
