A Bola / The Defence and Security Forces offered the President a Reinata Sadimba ceramic sculpture representing a mother protecting her children from war.
The President of Mozambique, Filipe Nyusi, yesterday urged the Defence and Security Forces (FDS) to be forces for peace, not war.
Nyusi highlighted the strong role of the FDS even 41 years after Mozambique achieved national independence in continuing to ensure the country’s territorial survival, sovereignty and integrity, remaining for him a shining example of reconciliation and democracy in Mozambique.
“Continue to regard peace as the main mission. We want the FDS to be forces for peace and not for war. And missions are clear in all moments and in moments of peace,” he said.
The president was reacting to the FDS message delivered on the occasion of his birthday yesterday, reaffirming its fidelity and obedience to the nation’s highest magistrate and to the Mozambican people.
The president praised the FDS for its support to society in difficult times such as natural disasters, as well as its activities in the fight against crime and the prevention of accidents.
“I bring your friendship, your affection to my family. Your fidelity, which you have just confirmed, means fidelity to the Mozambican people, to the law and to the Constitution of the Republic,” Nyusi said.
Speaking during the event, Minister of National Defence Salvador Mtumuke said that the entire country and the international community looked forward to the implementation of the solid and deep foundations from which a definitive peace in Mozambique would emerge.
Mtumuke expressed the commitment of the Defence Forces to do their part in restoring an effective and lasting peace in Mozambique.
“So we will. This was the dream of the liberators of the country. The generations to come will look with admiration upon your engagement as a noble and courageous act, characteristic of a leader who loves his people and has pledged his word for the well-being of this people,” the minister said.
“We unite once again to congratulate you on your birthday and reiterate our commitment to together, under your command, walk shoulder to shoulder in our hard and arduous task of developing the country, consolidating the peace, tranquility and security in our beloved homeland,” he added.
The ceremony, which took place in the president’s office, culminated in the offer of a work of art by the renowned Mozambican sculptress and ceramist Reinata Sadimba, representing a mother protecting her children from war.
The event was attended by members of the Council of Ministers, the recently appointed Director General of the State Information and Security Services (SISE), Chief of General Staff of the Defense Forces of Mozambique (FADM), Commander General of the Police of the Republic of Mozambique (PRM), members of the FDS and members of the Presidential Advisory Council among others.
