Residents in Matola, Maputo province, are up in arms against Águas da Região de Maputo for allegedly failing to comply with its own restricted daily water supply regime.
According to people interviewed by Radio Moçambique, since the beginning of the restrictions on January 10, instead of water being supplied on alternate days according to the schedule established by the company, households have been left for between three to four days without any of the precious liquid in their taps.
In response to consumer concerns, spokesman Afonso Mahumane explained that the continuous restrictions since January 10 were due to low levels of water in the river.
