Some neighbourhoods in Maputo have been without water for more than a week. So with drums in wheelbarrows, on heads or even just carried in hands, children, youths and adults are struggling to find water – a daily scenario in Maputo’s Malanga neighbourhood.
Water is so scarce in some neighboruhoods that hundreds of people are looking at drainage water as a solution to the problem. O País interviewees say they do not know the origin of the water, but the need is greater than thinking about the dangers, so they are using it for bathing.
Águas de Maputo has announced water supply on alternate days in Maputo, Matola and Boane, but there are indications that some neighbourhoods have gone more than a week without water in the taps.
