Gonçalo Mabunda, born in 1975 in Maputo, in Mozambique, is a Mozambican designer and sculptor.
Gonçalo Mabunda educated in Mozambique and South Africa and has worked as a full time artist since 1997. He uses his furniture, including thrones, and their anthropomorphic sculptures, weapons, which were collected in 1992 after sixteen years of armed conflict in Mozambique. He had his first exhibition outside of Mozambique in 1995, Tech Icon Natal in Durban, South Africa.
He made the sculpture prize of the Clinton Global International Citizen Awards in 2008. He has been asked to participate in delutställningen All The World’s Futures at the Venice Biennale 2015th.
Gonçalo Mabunda lives and works in Maputo.
