Tete police, center of Mozambique, announced this Monday, 16th, that the alleged perpetrator of the gasoline tank explosion in Caphiridzange, killing 104 people, turned himself to the police of Moatize last week, almost two months after the tragedy.
The man, identified as Sabino, more commonly known as Taliban, controls the informal trade fuel scheme in Moatize and along the N7, turned himself to the Police on Tuesday, where he was detained to answer to the case.
According to the police, Taliban, owns a Toyota Dina, witch carried the bomb that caused the fire, and that was also burnt during the operation of illegal transportation of gasoline from the tanker, belonging to a Malawian company, to 20 litres containers.
“He turned himself in and was held to answer about the tragedy of Caphiridzange”, Pedro Banana, Chief of Police in charge of operations of Moatize, without many details.
The police was following clues about Taliban before, after being held in November the first individual suspect in the involvement of the fuel sale scheme that ended in tragedy in the District of Moatize.
However VOA found a source from the local court, that Taliban, is free on bail, leaving the Moatize penitentiary to await the judgment of the case in question.
Of the more than 100 wounded, 52 returned home and have been receiving humanitarian assistance of INGC.
The tanker exploded during a collective fuel theft, after having been abandoned by the driver the day before, due to a first fire during an attempt to fuel transfer to another vehicle.
