Mozambique: Three sentenced to 30 years for kidnapping ; one still at large after jailbreak

A significant gain was made in the fight against contact and property related crimes when Potchefstroom K9 Unit arrested five suspects, aged between 20 and 39, in the evening on Thursday, 05 January 2017, at Ikageng Location near Potchefstroom.
The suspects’ arrest stems from a follow-up made on information received about suspected stolen goods at a certain house at Skotie Section, Ikageng. According to information, the police went to the said house where they found two Malawian males, one of them loading goods including two bicycles into a white Mazda bakkie. On questioning, the driver explained that the goods belonged to his friend. He allegedly informed the police that he was hired to transport the goods to Malawi.
Further probe led the police to a house at Extension 7, Ikageng where two Mozambican nationals were found. The police searched their place and found the following items: Two laptop, one flat screen television, four DVD players, two computer speakers, nine music system speakers, two laptop chargers, cordless mouse and three remote controllers, all worth R70 000.00. The suspects were then arrested for possession of suspected stolen goods. The fifth suspect, a Malawian national was arrested in town after one of the four suspects informed the police that he is the owner of another bicycle. The vehicle, Mazda bakkie was impounded.
All five suspects are expected to appear in the Potchefstroom Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 09 January 2017 for possession of suspected stolen property. Investigation into the matter continues.
The North West Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Baile Motswenyane lauded the members who worked hard and patiently to recover the goods and arresting the suspects.
