The district of Marromeu in Sofala province achieved nearly a hundred percent of its 2015-2016 agricultural harvest targets.
Situated in the Zambezi Valley, Marromeu harvested just over 13,300 tons of miscellaneous products from an area of 40,000 hectares, against estimates of 14,600 tons.
Marromeu administrator Joaquim Arota said that although the district had been affected by drought, it was decided to irrigate farm land using thirty-two irrigation systems.
Arouca explained that seventeen tractors were deployed to bring fields on line, and about 3,000 farming families were assisted by a group of twelve rural extension workers.
