Mozambique: CTA advocates for tourism-focused economic diplomacy
O País / Yesterday, people spend more than three hours in the queues.
The Ressano Garcia border has been crowded since Monday morning with people returning to South Africa after Christmas. Queues have stretched more than 500 meters, with a wait of about three hours to get passports stamped.
Disgruntled travelers have been complaining about the slowness of service on the Mozambican side, but Alfádegas spokesman Osvaldo Correia says his institution had increased the number of officials at work and opened more posts to facilitate the transit of people and goods – measures which, according to Correia, had been having the desired effect.
Most of the people crossing the border yesterday were miners returning to their jobs.
The Ressano Garcia border has been open 24 hours a day since the 14th of last month as part of Operation Salama, designed to facilitate the movement of people and goods over the festive season.
