It’s confirmed! As O País had advanced, the President of the Republic and the Renamo leader reached a new agreement on the ceasefire. The truce will be extended for another two months.
The initial truce was to be over tomorrow, January 4th. Meanwhile, the Renamo leader today (Tuesday, January 3) called a press conference by telephone to announce the extension of the truce for another 60 days.
Afonso Dhlakama said, on the other hand, that during the seven days of peace, there were some violations by the Defence and Security Forces.
Dhlakama also assures that the political dialogue in the presence of international mediators will continue, and the Government and Renamo will appoint experts to enable the decentralisation law.
The new agreement between Filipe Nyusi and Afonso Dhlakama was closed yesterday over the telephone. Dhlakama says that it was he who took the initiative and thanks Filipe Nyusi for the collaboration.
