Mozambique's largest trade fair FACIM kicks off on August 25 with 3,150 exhibitors
Mozambique and Canada consider that there is potential to establish strong communal business relationships and will therefore focus on exchanging information on existing business opportunities in both countries.
Speaking recently in Maputo at the Mozambique-Canada Business Forum, Deputy Executive Director of the Confederation of Economic Associations of Mozambique (CTA), Eduardo Sengo, said that the parties should prioritise the exchange of information on business opportunities in Mozambique.
“The CTA can disseminate information about business opportunities for domestic producers who have the potential to export to the Canadian market. We are available to work together in this process,” Sengo said.
According to the source, among other potential export sectors, cashew nuts, which can be processed in Mozambique and then exported to Canada, are worth highlighting. The seafood sector, especially shrimp, is another area believed to have export potential.
“The CTA hopes that this forum will serve to open a new chapter in business relations between the two countries, with the establishment of solid and strategic partnerships capable of leveraging trade and investment relations to top levels,” he said.
Speaking at the same meeting, the Canadian Embassy High Commissioner, Antoine Chevrier, explained that the Canadian government had a program of women’s economic empowerment in Africa, and said Mozambique was one of the countries chosen for implementation.
“We have to see how we can foster the economic empowerment of women. We want to see what Mozambican products can be marketed in Canada,” Chevrier said.
The forum is looking for opportunities to export products to Canada in the agro-processing, fruits and vegetables, cashew, textiles and clothing, cotton and fishing sectors.
