The General Inspectorate of Labour (IGT) has suspended 32 foreign nationals for working illegally in companies in Mozambique.
According to a press release from the Ministry of Labour, Employment and Social Security (MITESS) cited by AIM, the discovery and suspension of the illegal workers forms part of an IGT campaign covering food, beverage and related industries and fuel and lubrication supply companies.
During the campaign, the IGT surveyed a total of 390 companies, covering 7,624 workers, 286 of whom were of foreign nationalities and 32 of whom were caught working illegally. Under Mozambican labour law, they were suspended with immediate effect while their respective employers were fined for illegal employment of foreign labour, the statement said.
Companies in Nampula and Sofala provinces topped the list of offenders with 12 and 11 suspended workers respectively, followed by Zambézia with eight, Maputo province with two and Manica with only one suspension.
The suspended workers, the statement reveals, were from India (15), China (10), Tanzania (1), Portugal (1), Brazil (1) and South Africa (1) .
