Watch: Maputo province may revoke more than 250 mining licences

Out of 314 mining licences issued by Maputo’s Provincial Directorate of Mineral Resources and Energy, only 35 are fully operational, meaning that more than 250 may be revoked by Maputo provincial administration by the end of the year.
These titles have been issued but not withdrawn by the respective holders and the concessions are not being exploited due to economic and financial difficulties. Authorities however admit that changes in the tax regime may have affected decision-making in the sector.
