Mozambique: Nampula residents announce peaceful demonstration against fuel crisis
Two Mozambican nationals who stole a motorcycle belonging to ethanol producer Green Fuels and sold it before escaping to their country were recently arrested after local police set up a trap for the suspects.
The stolen motorcycle, which was worth $1,500, has since been recovered.
David Chihlangu, 31, and Isaiah Phineas Makama, 46, both of Masenjeni Village under Chief Chihlangu in Masenjeni District, Mozambique, recently appeared before Chipinge magistrate Noah Gwatidzo charged with theft.
They both pleaded not guilty and were remanded in custody to November 17 for trial.
Denying the charges, Chihlangu told the court that he was sent by an unidentified friend to sell the motor cycle whilst Makama said he just accompanying his co-accused to sell the bike.
The motor cycle was being used by Solomon Chikambure who is a Green fuel employee.
The two reportedly sold the bike to one Kudakwashe Machave at Checheche Growth Point for $700.
Prosecutors told the court that on June 24 this year, Chihlangu and Makama connived to steal the motorbike which was parked on the veranda of Chikambure’s home at Takwirira compound in Chisumbanje.
On September 12, Sergeant Pachavo of ZRP Chisumbanje, received information that the stolen motor cycle was parked at Checheche Growth Point.
He reacted swiftly and found the bike in the custody of one Machave who said he had bought it from the two suspects.
Machavave was arrested and later asked to assist police by luring the suspects back to Zimbabwe.
On September 18, Machavave and Alouis Makusha phoned the suspect telling them that he had an order for another motorcycle.
The suspects rushed to Machave’s homestead at Checheche Growth point where they were arrested by police.
