‘The CPLP Foundations and the Global Agenda 2030’ is the theme of the 11th meeting of the CPLP Foundations to be held in Maputo from November 15 to 17.
Promoted by the Portuguese Foundations Centre (CPF) and Mozambique’s Foundation for Development (FDC), the meeting will bring together foundation representatives and Portuguese-speaking countries’ institutes to discuss the challenges the CPLP countries face within the framework of Agenda 2030 and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), in particular in working with companies in the pursuit of SDGs, training for the labour market and the design of public policies on food security in the CPLP area.
Over the course of the meeting, links between foundations and companies in the pursuit of SDGs in the various CPLP countries will be discussed at roundtables at the Polana Hotel and in workshops held at partner institutions within a perspective of cooperation between the various foundations.
Concomitantly, an exhibition entitled ‘Lusophone Authors in the PLMJ Foundation Collection’, will run at the Maputo Portuguese Cultural Centre until December 23.
Meetings of CPLP Foundations began in 2003 as a platform for institutions with a common language to establish sectoral and intersectoral partnerships taking into account the needs of each country represented. The convergence of all the countries involved and the search for common synergies have sought sustainable solutions for the development of the various countries.
The opening session will be on November 15th at the Hotel Avenida in Maputo, and will have as speakers the President of the Foundation for Community Development, Graça Machel, and, representing the Mozambican foundations, the President of the Joaquim Chissano Foundation, former president of Mozambique Joaquim Chissano, as well as the President of the Portuguese Centre of Foundations.
About the Portuguese Foundations Centre
In 1993, the António de Almeida Foundation, the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation and the Oriente Foundation founded the Portuguese Centre of Foundations, born of the will and necessity that the Portuguese foundations together felt for the necessity of defending their common interests and organising themselves around a representative institution for the sector.
The Portuguese Centre of Foundations is a legal association statutorily aimed at cooperation and solidarity among its members and the defense of their common interests and currently counts 140 associated foundations as members.
Within the framework of its international relations, the CPF maintains contacts with associations of foundations in Europe and in the rest of the world. These include the European Foundation Center (EFC), the Donors and Foundations’ Networks in Europe (DAFNE) and the Worldwide Initiatives for Grantmaker Support (WINGS).
