Mozambique: Poaching “virtually under control”

The government of Gaza has declared a red alert for the Limpopo River basin, particularly communities in riverside areas in the districts and the city of Xai-Xai, Chibuto, Chokwe, Guijá, Massangena and Chigubo.
Governor of Gaza Stella Pinto Zeca’s decision follows a notice issued by ARA-Sul last Wednesday indicating that water in the Limpopo and Save river basins has reached alert levels at some hydrometric stations.
As a preventative measure, the Provincial Emergency Operating Centre (COEP) has recommended the removal of people and their belongings from risk areas, and avoiding activities in low-lying and riverside areas during the rains.
Preventive measures include inspection of water supply sources, rainwater drainage systems, roofing and access routes in residential areas.
Speaking on Thursday in Fenicelene on the outskirts of the city of Xai-Xai during a practice response simulation, Governor Stella Pinto Zeca highlighted the importance of the drill and underlined the importance of obeying instructions issued by the authorities in the event of an emergency.
The governor said that emergency assistance for people rescued would be provided, including food and medicine in local shelters and defined areas for cattle moved from at-risk areas.
