A Bola
Ferroviário da Beira has officially been crowned champions of Mozambican elite division ‘Moçambola’ for the 2016 season.
Founded in 1924, Ferroviário da Beira won the championship after defeating Desportivo de Maputo 2-1 in the ultimate match of the season on Saturday. The victory took their tally to 61 points from 30 games, six more than rivals UDS Songo who lost 2-0 at mid table side, Ferroviário de Nacala.
It was bad finish for Songo who had been pacesetters for the better part of the campaign only to flounder in the last decisive stretch of the race.
Traditional giants, Costa do Sol finished a distant eleventh, 23 points behind the league champions.
By the feat, Ferroviario da Beira will represent Mozambique in next year’s CAF Champions League.
Meanwhile, the bottom three clubs Estrela Vermelha Maputo, Desportivo Maputo and Desportivo Niassa have been relegated.
