Alberto Mondlane, governor of Manica central province.
Speaking on Monday during the second coordinating council of the Manica provincial government, the Governor of Manica province, Alberto Mondlane, demanded that non-governmental organizations (NGOs) operating in the province submit their activity plans and budgets for monitoring.
39 of the 69 NGOs active in Manica province are international and the remainder Mozambican. Their activities span health, education, agriculture, gender, children and social welfare, capacity building, water and sanitation, environment, industry and trade, law and mine clearance.
While acknowledging the role of NGOs, Mondlane said that most of these organizations did not present either their work plans or the investments they imply to the provincial government, making it difficult to coordinate interventions in the various fields. The governor further said that district administrators, mayors and provincial directors are to monitor NGO’s compliance with their activity plans.
Mondlane said that it was necessary for districts to have control of the NGOs operating in their territories, to ensure that they did not act outside the law.
Finally, Agostinho Mondlane promised that mechanisms for joint planning and also those for monitoring would continue to be improved in order to achieve government defined goals, accelerate the fight against poverty and promote economic and social development.
