Mozambican businessman Fernando Amado Couto has been selected as African Industrial Personality of the Year during the eighth African Awards for Business Leadership sponsored by African Leadership.
The annual award aims to distinguish leaders and institutions in Africa whose excellence in the economic sector has had an impact on Africa’s growth and development.
Fernando Amado Couto stood out specifically for his leadership in port management, with the organisers recognising the exceptional leadership skills and vision responsible for the success in the management of terminal and port traffic in the Port of Nacala.
Portos do Norte has been in charge of operations at Nacala port, also a significant development centre, since 2013.
According to a press release sent to Noticias, the African Awards for Business Leadership annually distinguish entrepreneurs and institutions in Africa that stand out for excellence, especially in the private sector. Candidates are selected from across the continent, attracting more than 250 entrepreneurs and professionals whose work has contributed to the strength of the continent’s economy.
Among previous award winners are figures such as former President of Tanzania, Jakaya Kikwete, Namibia’s Hifikepunye Pohamba and Ellen Johnson Sirleaf of Liberia, as well as renowned Sudanese businessmen Mo Ibrahim.
This is not the first that Fernando Amado Couto’s entrepreneur qualities have been recognised. He was 2007 Entrepreneur of the Year, and in that capacity represented Mozambique at a ceremony in the Principality of Monaco in 2008.
