Mozambique’s Minister of Land, Environment and Rural Development says investments must advance the well-being of the population and Small and Medium-sized Enterprises better in future.
With people living in rural areas near mega-projects complaining of the lack of any direct benefits from these enterprises, Minister Celso Correia, defended the need for a new approach to investment.
Minister Correia believes that it is time for big investment projects to become more inclusive of the population and small and medium enterprises, but without harming the environment.
The Minister was speaking on Wednesday at the opening of the sixth National Seminar on Microfinance, where he challenged participants to act on the discussions at the meeting to explore opportunities in rural areas as a way of overcoming the current economic crisis.
National Director of Rural Development, Olegario Banze, likewise highlighted the importance of empowering local people through inclusive programmes including those based on technologies intended to promulgate financial inclusion.
The meeting, which ran for two days under the motto “For an inclusive financial sector towards sustainable development”, brought together government, national and international financial agents and farmers from various parts of the country.
