A group of criminals broke into the office of a Manica district judge, Zvika Maniquidzua, in the central Mozambican province of Manica on Wednesday morning, and stole a laptop computer.
The district presiding judge, Efigenio Baptista, confirmed the theft to AIM. He said the criminals cut through the padlocks and then smashed down the office door. They rifled through all the papers they could find, and then stole the computer. Before leaving, they defecated in the office.
Bapista said the case has been reported to the police.
The Manica district court is in possession of several cases of serious crimes, in which important figures in the district are among the accused. These include senior district state officials charged with crimes of corruption and disobedience. These cases are expected to go to trial later this year.
