Mozambique: President unveils plan to build 97 court buildings, 10 prisons by 2029

On Thursday 21 January, Daviz Simango, leader of the Mozambican Democratic Movement (MDM), condemned Wednesday’s alleged assassination attempt against Manuel Bissopo.
The also mayor of Beira city Daviz Simango said that the current situation in the country has resulted in a “culture of violence” which should be fought by those who are directing the State.
“This cannot go on like this”, he said, highlighting, for example, the murders of journalists and academics who hold unfavourable opinions about the two opposing political parties.
Simango suggested that a commission be established in order to investigate the prior attacks carried out against Afonso Dhlakama, as well as the recent attack against Bissopo.
In the meantime, the head of the Department of Public Provincial Command of the PRM, Daniel Macuácua, publically declared that the PRM of Sofala Province, in collaboration with several other law enforcement bodies, are investigating Wednesday’s shooting incident.
