Maputo inspects scrap yards in bid to crack down on manhole cover theft – photos

The Police of the Republic of Mozambique (PRM) in Tete province claim to have clues as to the whereabouts of the Chinese businessman kidnapped in Angónia district in the beginning of the year.
According to Radio Mozambique, the kidnappers began communicating with one of the businessman’s friends last week, demanding more than five million meticais for his release.
PRM spokesman Lourdes Ferreira said that the police are fully informed on what is happening.
The kidnapping of the Chinese citizen in Angónia occurred at a time when residents there consider levels of crime to be the worst in memory.
