Mozambican who escaped from BO Prison in December arrested in South Africa

The bail application of the two Mozambican citizens who were arrested at the Lebombo Border Post in Mpumalanga for being in possession of a large amount of cash, will be heard in the Barberton Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.
The case was postponed last week to give the state time to finalise the verification of addresses of the two suspects as well as gather other information.
Faizal Assane and Ahmed Abdulla are facing charges of fraud, possession of suspected stolen property and failure to declare the cash.
During their previous appearance in court, State prosecutor Lisa Ahlers informed the court that they have received an extradition request for the two suspects from the Attorney General of Mozambique.
However, their lawyer Pieter Naude said Faizal Assane is applying for asylum because he received death threats in Mozambique.
Ahlers and Assane attempted to smuggle more than R76 million through the Lebombo Border Post last month.
