Renamo leader Afonso Dhlakama said yesterday that South African President Jacob Zuma and the Catholic church had accepted an invitation to mediate the political dialogue between his party and the government.
Dhlakama spoke on a conference call heard in a Beira hotel by journalists as well as by members of his party.
“The Catholic church has expressed its readiness. In these mediation matters, it is necessary that both sides are available and it is also necessary that the government, Frelimo, demonstrates goodwill. And I also have indications that President Zuma is willing to help the Mozambican brothers. Jacob Zuma [‘s presence] is not to solve everything. It is to help. To be in the middle between Renamo and Frelimo,” Dhlakama said.
The leader of the largest opposition party stressed that if the conditions are met by the government, Renamo will move forward and engage in dialogue.
