The President, Filipe Nyusi, will today pay the last tribute to the State Councillor and member of the Joint Commission team for Political Dialogue, Jeremias Pondeca, killed on the morning of last Saturday in the beach area of Costa do Sol, in Maputo.
The tribute will take place during the wake, which will be held in the City Hall in Maputo Municipal Council.
According to the official program, the wake is scheduled to begin at 10 am and, according to sources close to the organisation of the ceremony, will be attended by state representatives, the Joint Commission for dialogue and international observers, political parties, especially Renamo, where Jeremias Pondeca was a senior member, representatives of the religious community, civil society, as well as family and friends.
The wake will mark the final goodbye to Pondeca, by those who lived with him in the city of Maputo, where he was a resident.
The body of the deceased will be laid to rest in the administrative post of Chidenguele, in Gaza province, his birthplace.
The murder of Jeremiah Pondeca is getting reactions from various quarters of the world. United States of America (USA), the European Union (EU), arrived message of condemnation and rejection. Internally, the Research Centre for Human Rights and Development (DHD) yesterday issued a press release which classifies the murder of Pondeca as an attack on democracy.
President Nyusi has also condemned the murder and demanded speedy action from the authorities in solving the crime.
