Mozambique: Digitalization of public administration crucial for reducing corruption

The Democratic Movement of Mozambique (MDM) in Nacala-Porto, Nampula province, has accused the police of persecuting its members. According to MDM’s Carlos Bernardo, party members in possession of official party insignia have been targeted by the police.
“On 25 June, a young party member was arrested because he had an MDM flag at Heroes Square. The same also happened on September 16, Nacala City day, to other party members with MDM flags who went to the saquare to celebrate the day. But police and some members of Frelimo who assaulted the MDM members did not understand this. Police supported them [Frelimo members] and threatened to kill some of our colleagues, including me,” Bernardo said.
Speaking at the presentation ceremony of 20 new party members in Nacala, Bernardo warned the police that his party would be in Heroes Square on the Day of Peace. “On 4 October, the MDM will be there in the square with its members and with its party banner,” he said.
