From 10 to 15 October, Maputo city is to host the 10th meeting of the World March of Women, an event that brings together representatives from all five continents to consider activities undertaken, achievements made and lessons learned and, above all, the challenges still facing women in overcoming poverty and violence.
The event, held under the banner “Women in Resistance: Building Alternatives for a Better World”, will include public debates on the situation of girls and sharing of contexts between regions, laws of succession, family law, the penal code, workers rights and land tenure security. A study of the situation of women in Mozambique will also be launched.
The World March of Women was established in 2000 in Canada to mobilize women from around the world in a campaign against poverty and violence. The actions started on 8 March, International Women’s Day, and ended on 17 October of the same year.
In Mozambique, the technical committee of the event, which takes place on a biennial basis, is run by the Fórum Mulher (Women’s Forum).
