Following complaints several days ago by the mayor of Quelimane municipality that he was being stalked by armed men, more alarming news emerged.
As newspaper Txopela reports: “One of the security guards of the president of Quelimane municipality, Manuel de Araújo, has been seriously injured, the mayor announced on social networks on Sunday afternoon.”
Going into details, the publication referred to reports that “three individuals still at large and armed with blunt instruments battered one of the men responsible for Araújo’s security”.
“This follows a recent public complaint by the mayor [of Quelimane and Member of Democratic Movement of Mozambique (MDM)] that he was allegedly being followed by men intent on taking his life.”
The report also recalls that, “Recently, the head of the Renamo bench in parliament, Ivone Soares, also reported an attempted murder by a supposed ‘death squad’.”
