The Mozambican government, the main opposition party (Renamo), and international mediation today suspended peace talks until October 10, to separately examine the points on the agenda, a source of the negotiation process told the press.
“This break will serve for the analysis of the issues already on the table,” the coordinator of the international mediators team, Italian Mario Raffaelli, told the press, speaking at the end of the negotiating session.
According to Raffaeli, the government and Renamo (Mozambique National Resistance) will reflect during the suspension period around the requirement of the main opposition party to rule in the six provinces where it claims victory in the general elections of 2014 and the cessation of military confrontation between the Defence and Security Forces and the armed wing of the main opposition party.
In addition to studying of these agenda points, added Mario Raffaelli, the parties will have space for the preparation of documents concerning the agenda points that are being discussed.
“It’s a timely break and coincides with an important date [October 4, the day of the signing of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement of 1992],” he said.
