Mozambican alleged kidnapper shot dead in South Africa - AIM report
A member of the Police of the Republic of Mozambique (PRM) got drunk in a bar last weekend in Quelimane, Zambezia province, and fell into an argument over a woman with a man who he later shot in the middle of the street.
The police officer, whose identity has not been released, claimed that he fired in self-defence when the individual attacked him.
The officer’s superiors say they have detained the officer and started disciplinary proceedings against him because the weapon issued to him was not to be used to perpetrate abuses, and he should not even have taken it into a drinking establishment.
The accused police officer said the citizen he shot had pushed him and that he fell without his gun saying that it all happened in a dark place. Getting up, he claims to have recovered the gun and tried to defend himself because he did not know what were the real intentions of the victim.
