Four dead and ten injured is the preliminary toll of an explosion of a tanker truck transporting fuel in the district of Vanduzi, Manica province. The victims died while attempting to break into the truck to steal fuel.
Among the fatalities are a man and two women, one of whom was carrying her baby in her arms.
The incident occurred when a group of people rushed to the location of the explosion to take fuel from the tanker truck, which lost control and overturned at around 4 a.m. this Friday.
Meanwhile, in Tete city, yesterday, two people died and another eight suffered serious and minor injuries following a crash that happened at around 6 p.m. in the Mpadue neighbourhood and involved four vehicles, including a lorry. The victims were leaving a funeral cortege.
After the accident, the victims were taken to the Provincial Hospital of Tete, where they continue to receive treatment.
Excessive speed by the driver of the truck transporting coal is cited as the cause of the crash.
