World Bank lowers Mozambique’s growth forecast to 1.8% this year

The Secretary of State for the Treasury and Budget, Amilcar Tivane, yesterday reiterated that the Mozambican State collected approximately US$165 million from the petroleum production tax in the country during the period from 2022 to 2024, of which US$33.6 million was channelled to the State Budget (OE) to meet development needs previously approved in the State Budget law.
Amilcar Tivane, speaking this Thursday in Maputo during a press conference to explain the details of the creation of the Sovereign Fund and the use of the tax revenue from gas extraction in Mozambique, stated that the remainder of the US$165 million is in the transitional account.
“It should be noted that the law establishing the Sovereign Fund was approved by the Assembly of the Republic in 2024,” Tivane pointed out. “Before the regulation, the revenues from the petroleum production tax, as provided for by law, were used to finance the State Budget. When the Sovereign Fund law came into effect, the resources subsequently collected were allocated to the transitional account, which as of 23 October 2025 has a balance of US$204.5 million,” he said,
